Accident Report Photo Tips

  1. Take photos… lots of them.
Nearly everyone has a smartphone with a digital camera these days, and taking a variety of photos can greatly improve your claim’s position.
  2. Shoot from a variety of angles.
Take photos of the vehicles or property involved from multiple angles… top, side, underneath. By doing this it can reveal damage that cannot be seen upon a quick glance or to an untrained eye.
  3. Get the whole picture.
Don’t just shoot photos from a very close vantage point. Back up to capture multiple vehicles, the road, road conditions, signage, license plates, first responders and law enforcement, property damage and even witnesses. All of this can be used to support your claim.
  4. Shoot Video.
Video can also reveal much more than simple photos. It can document interaction with the other party, their demeanor, or even impairment. Video can also document an entire accident scene with a simple pan or zooming in or out on relevant features. You can also use video to capture witness information and stories with their consent.
  5. Take your time.
Even though you are most likely shaken after an accident, taking good photos can help insurance companies and even courts to determine fault in an accident. Take some time to properly frame and focus each photo or video, and to capture everything you feel is relevant. If needed, return to the accident scene to take photos of signs, traffic, environmental factors or anything that may have affected the accident.
