Backpack Donations 2012

August signals the start of ‘back to school’ sales – there is a buzz of excitement in the air as summer comes to a close and the start of school approaches.  It’s an exciting time for  kids and families – but for some in our community it is a real financial hardship.  As moms and dads ourselves,  we understand how important it is for all children to be able to start school on the first day with all the things they need.  The United Way School Supply Drive program  is a  special project we’ve been involved in for 14 years and one we really enjoy. For a few weeks the agency  ‘kitchen area’ is a gathering spot for  donations of all types of school supplies from the staff and agency.  We also volunteer to help organize supplies and fill backpacks at the Fargo Dome prior to ‘distribution day’.   We just couldn’t resist testing out those school scissors in the photo below!

This year the United Way program distributed 4,599 backpacks to K-12 students in Cass and Clay counties, helping thousands of kids return to school confident and ready to succeed in  learning!       Way to go United Way and all area businesses and individuals who made this happen!!
